Returns from Operation Feeding Freedom VII

OSI Restaurant Partners Volunteers Fed Troops in Middle East
October 28, 2009, Anaheim, California – Heather Avery, Managing Partner with Roy’s Hawaiian Fusion Cuisine at GardenWalk in Anaheim, recently completed a trip to the Middle East as a volunteer with Operation Feeding Freedom VII, an annual mission sponsored by OSI Restaurant Partners, LLC.  The Hawaiian native, and long time resident of Orange County, joined 28 other OSI volunteers from around the country who brought United States and coalition soldiers a taste of home from the Company’s participating restaurants – Outback Steakhouse, Carrabba’s Italian Grill, Bonefish Grill, Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, and Roy’s. The Operation Feeding Freedom VII mission served 37,000 service men and women approximately 55,000 pounds of food in both Afghanistan and Turkey. Among the dishes prepared were Roy's signature beef short ribs for the troops.

“This most recent mission to the Middle East marks our seventh trip overseas to feed the men and women who have stepped up to serve our country ,” said Bill Allen, Chief Executive Officer of OSI Restaurant Partners.  “The mission has proved to be a valuable experience for all of our volunteers.  Good food is an everyday comfort at home and they enjoy having the opportunity to boost morale by providing a few of our classic signature dishes to these brave men and women who are defending freedom overseas and are away from their loved ones – it is indeed an honor for all of us at OSI.”

The first launch of Operation Feeding Freedom began with a team of Outbackers who traveled to Afghanistan in 2002 to feed troops stationed there.  Since that trip, over 100 members of the OSI team have made another six trips serving troops in Djibouti, Afghanistan, Iraq, Kuwait and aboard the USS Nimitz in Bahrain.  Overall, 137,000 troops have been served at numerous forward command locations.

This effort would not have been possible without the support and contributions of OSI Restaurant Partners’ purveyors and vendors.  Through their generosity, the menu featured signature dishes such as the Outback Bloomin’ Onion, Bonefish Bang Bang Shrimp, and Fleming’s Calamari.  Also served were thick and juicy steaks, potatoes, Carrabba’s signature pastas, Bonefish Longfin Tilapia with Lobster Thermidor Sauce and Roy’s signataure Beef Short Ribs.
