Skydiving Jump from Airship Ventures Zeppelin Eureka To Kick off
Independence Day Weekend
Dramatic Jump to Be
Staged Over Queen Mary Park
Long Beach, CA (June 26, 2009) -
Fireworks won't be the only show up in the sky over Independence Day
week! The world's largest airship, the Zeppelin Eureka, returns to Los
Angeles with a special aerial thrill for spectators on the ground at
the Queen Mary in Long Beach.
On Thursday, July 2 at approximately 11:00 am, the Airship Ventures
Eureka will make a special flight over the Queen Mary. Hovering at 3000
ft above Events Park, former Navy SEAL Leapfrog parachutist Geoff
Reeves and his team will make an historic Para drop from the airship,
landing precisely in a specially designated drop zone.
The skydivers, and the airship, will be given a special welcome on the
ground, with nautical flags on the ship spelling out the word
"Eureka."
The public is invited to view this special jump at the Queen Mary
Events Park, 1126 Queen's Highway, Long Beach (at the end of the 710
freeway at the corner of Harbor and Queen's Way).
This special event kicks off Eureka's second excursion to L.A. from its
home base in the Bay Area, and also serves as a premiere launch to a
weekend-long 4th of July celebration at the Queen Mary. Live music,
L.A.'s hottest deejays, celebrity appearances, street performers, a
huge fireworks show and a VIP pool party will be featured throughout
the weekend. Friday evening will feature deejays, karaoke and comedy
shows. Saturday's main event will start at noon featuring popular radio
stations broadcasting live, leading up to a waterfront fireworks show.
Sunday the fun continues with more music and performances. Hotel
packages are available.
From July 3-7, the public will also have the chance to take
flightseeing tours aboard Eureka, and experience magnificent views of
the Queen Mary and other Southern California landmarks during one- and
two-hour tours offered daily during the airship's visit to the Los
Angeles area. The highlight of Eureka's Independence Week visit is a
special two-hour July 4 fireworks flight that takes advantage of the
Zeppelin's 360-degree panoramas to offer passengers stunning views of
fireworks shows up and down the L.A. coastline.
Flights depart from nearby AirFlite FBO terminal, adjacent to the main
terminal at Long Beach Airport. One-hour flights are $495 plus tax per
person; two-hour flights are $990 plus tax per person; and the
spectacular Fourth of July fireworks flight is $1,200 plus tax per
person.
Flightseeing tours booked before June 30, 2009, will be eligible for
the company's "buy one ticket, save 50% on the second," promotional
pricing (excluding the Fourth of July Fireworks Flight). Passengers on
every flight will receive a certificate redeemable for a
buy-one-get-one-free general admission to the Queen Mary, good through
September 30, 2009.
At 246 feet in length, Airship Ventures' Eureka is the world's largest
airship—15 feet longer than a Boeing 747, and dwarfing the largest
blimp by more than 50 feet. One of only three Zeppelins currently
operating in the world, Eureka offers passengers spectacular 360-degree
views of the sights on flightseeing tours above the San Francisco Bay,
Silicon Valley, Monterey and Los Angeles.
