Sheraton Cerritos Hotel Wins Community Service Award
CERRITOS, Calif. December 8, 2008 – The Sheraton Cerritos Hotel has been honored with a prestigious Community Service Award by the ABC Unified School District Board of Education. The award is given to recognize businesses who volunteer to help with and participate in the districts educational improvement programs.
In 2008 the Sheraton Cerritos participated in the Applerise Program, in which hotel employees read to elementary school children. “It is rewarding to share my passion for reading with the school children” said Tamara McLaughlin the hotels Director of Sales.
A favorite program amongst the ROP students in the district allows them hands on experience working in different departments at the hotel. It was so much fun to have students working at the front desk, in the restaurant and in the engineering department. “Wow, who knew so much work goes into a running a hotel,” said one student. “It’s so much fun to talk to the guests”, another student added.
The hotels General Manager, Chris Halderson, will be principal for a day at Cerritos High School next month. It’s a great way for students to see first hand what great opportunities await them in their own backyard if they work hard and focus on their education. “I’m looking forward to being principal for a day,” Mr. Halderson said. “It will be a treat to be on the other side of the principal’s office,” he added with a laugh.
