Hojo Resort Opens Largest Non-Disney Water Playground in Anaheim

ANAHEIM, Calif. (Aug. 14, 2008) – On August 8, 2008, the Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel – Anaheim Resort will celebrate the grand opening of “Castaway Cove – A Watery Pirate Playground."  The $1 million addition to the kid-friendly HoJo is the largest non-Disney water park in Anaheim and includes a 30 foot pirate ship, water slides, water cannons, a toddler pool and splashing fountains.

Touting a quick walk to Disneyland®, a new water playground, 15-person whirlpool spa, and a separate secluded swimming pool, this HoJo enjoys a clear lead in the struggle to win over families with kids.  Built by world renowned architect William L. Pereira - best known for the Disneyland Hotel and San Francisco’s TransAmerica building - this visually unique hotel is located on Harbor Boulevard in the shadow of Matterhorn Mountain and the Disneyland Monorail track.

The pirate themed Castaway Cove rests visibly behind the lobby building on this unusually large seven-acre property. New decking, tropical landscaping, unique lighting and stately entry gate welcome hotel guests to this ideal facility for both family relaxation and play. In these days of high gas prices, finding a hotel that includes facilities to entertain the whole family is highly desirable.

“We listened to our guests comments.” Hotel General Manager, Jonathan Whitehead, said. “We found that our water facilities are among the most popular features we possess. This hotel has won three national awards from TripAdvisor.com for being ‘family friendly’ so our goal was to go the extra mile to provide more kid friendly activities right here on site.”

The grand opening will be a themed affair with costumed pirates, vintage buccaneer décor and steel drum band. Guests will enjoy featured appearances by Howard Johnson brand senior vice president Rui Barros, and Howard Johnson vice president of operations Phil Harvey, as well as representatives from the Anaheim/Orange County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Expedia.com, Orbitz.com and Travelocity.com.

“The Howard Johnson brand prides itself on providing comfortable and enjoyable accommodations to our guests, especially families,” said Barros.  “Adding a water park of this magnitude is not only an outstanding accomplishment for this hotel, but it is also a great representation of the HoJo spirit.”
